Barry the BeeMaster Barry
is a local beekeeper serving the Greater Victoria area on the southern end of Vancouver Island, BC Canada. He is an accredited Bee Master in the province of British Columbia and BCHPA certified instructor of Beginner's Beekeeping. Barry has been actively keeping bees for 20+ years throughout the South Islands.

Training is an integral part of the support program we provide to beekeepers of the south islands of British Columbia. We currently offer courses for several aspects of beekeeping. All courses include field experience as well as classroom time. We also provide an on going private consulting service for additional on site training.


Beginner's Beekeeping 2025 -  ($285)

This course is an introduction to beekeeping. There are no prerequisites. The course offers participants both theory and practical field experience. With Covid-19 consideration my Beginner's course has been restructured to a webinar format so you can safely participate from home.
Each of the 6 webinar sessions are 2.5 hours in duration consisting of 3 modules with breaks for questions. Each of the 40 minute modules will be recorded and made avaialble through my private educational YouTube chanel for review after the course.
Field days will be scheduled when able, hopefully at end of the webinar lectures during May or June on a Sunday afternoon.

Course Description:

Note:

A bee veil for over the head protection during the field sessions is required. Course material is included. I will assist in starting your new apiary by sourcing beekeeping and beekeeper equipment and guaranteeing the availability of at least 1 NUC (starter hive) of locally bred bees from my private stock, typically available early May. Price to be set during the first class.


If you are unable to attend a scheduled course, please advise of a date when  you are available by email. When there is sufficient interest, I will definitely consider scheduling another course.
